Only in Takoma Park

Tonight, as I sit at the computer, all I can hear is the sound of not-so-distant drumming coming from my next door neighbor's house.

Oh! It MUST be said that this is not the kind of drumming one might hear while a band is playing, or someone's stereo is up too loud. No, this is Spiritual Healing / Prayer drumming.

Only in Takoma Park.

Dum Dum Dum Dum
Dum Dum Dum Dum
Dum Dum Dum Dum
Dum Dum Dum Dum ...

In Like a Lion

Well, the last 4 weeks have certainly been a Beast so far, health wise. We have tackled Strep Throat, Pink Eye, an Ear Infection, the Nastiest Cold/Cough EVER (which still lingers), the RotaVirus with dehydration and a related trip to the hospital, and now Mia is having adverse reactions to her medication (or something).

I'm just praying that this year will be like March. In like a Lion, and out like a Lamb.

As far as our house progress, we now have counter tops! Hooray! Next steps are flooring and appliances, but it's slow going. Sickness is making progress difficult, of course. (Did we forget to eat blackeyed peas on New Years?)

I am still spending time working at the girls' preschool, and serving as co-president of the Board and Patrick is working as a Superhero - being a Senior Executive at Accenture as well as working on the house projects nights and weekends, and of course, trying to fit in time to just spend with his ladies.

He and Mia attended the Takoma Park Father-Daughter dance on February 7th, and both had a great time. Mia couldn't stop talking about all the sweet treats they had there, and of course her dress and fancy shoes.

Laney had a trip to the hospital this past week and had to spend 3 nights there while they rehydrated her and made sure she would eat and drink so she could go home. Watching them probe her arms for veins so they could test her blood for electrolytes had to be one of the most difficult things I have ever had to do. I don't know how parents of REALLY sick children do that every day.

I'm watching for signs of spring outside while all this goes on, and some are appearing. There are buds on the flowering pear trees and the daffodil shoots are starting to push out of the dirt. Too bad it's cold enough for snow today. I'm ready for change.
